Today the state of heated competition among multinational enterprises (MNEs) is getting severer and severer. It is commonly said that the competition among MNEs today has come to the age of the mega-competition. Under this age, winners take all. Most of them are manufacturers that use the high technologies, such as the semiconductor industry. But we cannot explain what the source of competitive advantage for winners is, because there is no concept to explain these conditions. It is important to understand those conditions clearly to think about the change of competitive advantage. So the purpose of this study is to clear the mechanism of competition among MNEs while the existing conditions have been constructed.;The main method of this study is analyzing the development process of the competition among MNEs. Especially dividing the development process of MNEs into three stages is the characteristic of this dissertation. At the first stage, most of American MNEs had ruled the world market to increase their influence. Next, the phase which European and Japanese MNEs had competed with American MNEs is the second stage. Finally, the third stage, which is in question, is that the phase which Asian MNEs are added to former countries. Each stage is clarified through actual data, which show the changing strategic intent of the top management who make their company's direction.;The conclusions drawn from this analysis is the following three points. (1) There is a specific character every stage, such as the economies of scale in the first stage, the economies of scope in the second stage, and the economies of standards, which was made obviously in this study, in the third stage; (2) each character reveals the process of evolution in which MNEs have developed, not separately; (3) the business that attains these two points at the same time has a great chance to achieve the increasing returns.
