In this study, two software packages, i.e., SNAIL and SOILSTRUCT, were used for the optimal design approach for the soil nailing. With SNAIL, data from 21 different design sections from the field were analyzed and the safety factors by SNAIL were compared with measured wall crest deformations. The finite element program SOILSTRUCT was applied for the effect analysis of nail stiffness and nail inclination in soil-nailed wall. For this finite element analysis, CEBTP No. 1 project data were used.;This study showed that SNAIL was a good tool for soil-nailed wall design. SOILSTRUCT showed that the effect of bar inclination on the wall deformation was very little. Also the results showed that the effect of axial stiffness was not a critical point for design, and the tension force in the nails increases as the nail depth below the top of the wall increases except for the lowest nail.
