Predestination overruled their will: A Marxist analysis of the predestination versus free will problem in 'Paradise Lost'.

In John Milton's Paradise Lost a conflict between predestination and free will exists. Contrary to His claims, Milton's God predestines the Fall of man. By using Marx's circuit of capital, this paper proves that Milton's God predestines the Fall. The circuit of capital demonstrates God's motive for the Fall: that the love God used in creating man returns to Him with higher value after the Fall. This paper also includes a discussion of how the Christian Apologists agree with Milton's intent for the Fall as portrayed in Paradise Lost. This paper proves that Milton's intention and artistic execution are different, so when the Christian Apologists agree with Milton's intention, the basis for their criticism is not the text of Paradise Lost.
