Experiments were performed to evaluate the heat transfer effectiveness of monodisperse sprays of large drops impinging vertically downward on a high temperature surface. Sprays of large droplets may be of benefit in some industrial applications where jets have previously been used. The droplet diameters studied include sizes that have not been previously addressed in the literature. Droplets sizes ranging from 3 to 25 m were studied. Parametric tests were run to elucidate the dependence of spray effectiveness on spray mass flux, droplet diameter, and droplet velocity. The results of these tests showed that the effectiveness is most dependent on spray mass flux. This power law dependence is expected to vary with droplet diameter, velocity, and surface temperature.
