In the first part of this thesis, the analytical method for free aluminum ion in aqueous solution is described. Using Pt as the working electrode, SVRS (solochrome violet RS, 5-sulfo-2-hydroxybenzene-azo-napthol) as the complexing reagent, and the oxidation wave of the Al-SVRS complex as the analytical signal, the free aluminum ion in aqueous solution can be determined confidently down to ppb levels by DPV (differential pulse voltammetry). The detection limit of the method is 2 {dollar}times{dollar} 10{dollar}sp{lcub}-6{rcub}{dollar} M and the linear range is 2 {dollar}times{dollar} 10{dollar}sp{lcub}-4{rcub}{dollar} M to 8 {dollar}times{dollar} 10{dollar}sp{lcub}-6{rcub}{dollar} M, which has proven to be sufficient to determine the free aluminum ion in natural water samples. The effects of 9 possible co-existing ions in water samples were also tested.; In order to apply this analytical method in vivo, a chemically modified electrode is introduced into this system. In the second pan of work, the possibility of the use of the (Ru(vbpy){dollar}sb3rbrack sp{lcub}2+{rcub}{dollar} (vbpy, 4-vinyl-4{dollar}spprime{dollar}methyl-2,2{dollar}spprime{dollar}bipyridine) modified electrode has been investigated.
