This dissertation proposes a new dynamic channel allocation method, called the Fixed Cell Assignment, which provides wireless Internet access using the Internet Protocol version 6, by employing packet switched time division multiple access transmission for the forward link in broadband (10Mbit/sec) wireless networks.; The framework of the compression algorithm supporting IPv6 mobility in wireless communications is developed to provide an effective compression rate to support mobility and the spectral efficiency required in wireless networks. To support the mobility, it is assumed that any change of other fields in an Internet Protocol version 6 header except care-of-address disconnects the call. The address assignment method and the LZW coding deliver significant compression of the long IPv6 header for the initial connection. After the initial communication, the algorithm provides compression through the comparator coding and the LZW coding. The algorithm's performance is evaluated using both analytic techniques and computer simulation.; The Fixed Cell Assignment system is configured with directional base station antennas and omnidirectional mobile antennas, with each cell divided into six sectors, and sectors numbered in the same order for every cell. Access is controlled based on availability and sector number, and half the sectors in each cell reuse the same spectrum with power control mitigating the effects of co-channel interference. Performance is evaluated using both analytic techniques and computer simulation for the maximum capacity tradeoffs.
