This thesis presents the design and computer simulation of a chaotic Chua-type circuit. In this design, the nonlinear resistor usually used to implement the Chua's circuit (i.e. Chua's diode), is replaced with a tunnel diode, in order to enable the high frequency oscillations.; The circuit is designed using the load-line technique, previously published Chua's circuit parameters, and previously published bifurcation diagrams. The circuit design is verified by using the linearization analysis of the circuit's singular points. The designed circuit is modeled using a system of normal-form differential equations. The solution to the system is obtained numerically using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta integration method.; Also explored is an application of the chaotic circuit. Synchronization of chaos is discussed and computer simulation result of a chaotic encryption system is presented.
