Examining and enhancing hiring, training, and retention policies and practices in the United States Virgin Island Police Department.

In order to improve an organization's hiring, training, and retention efforts attention must be paid to the organizational strategy and how it unites and exemplifies the organizational goals. So with this in mind I set out to examine the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department to determine why their hiring, training, and retention effort has failed to keep the department adequately staffed, efficient in training its personnel, and adept at retaining the services of talented and experienced officers. Staffing misnomers, training, inconsistencies or shortfalls, as well as employee compensation and benefit packages, are reviewed and recommendations are made for improvements. A concentric circle of problems and solutions are brought into focus that provide a means by which the U.S. Virgin Islands Police, another law enforcement entity, of any organization may improve its hiring, training, and retention protocols.
