A comparison of the student dropouts in school districts with or without dropout prevention programs.

The purpose of this study was to compare the number of student dropouts in school districts with dropout prevention programs and school districts without dropout prevention programs to determine if there is a significant difference between the dropout rates.;The population for this study was students who dropped out of high schools. The sample was obtained from 30 school districts with dropout prevention programs and 30 school districts without dropout prevention programs. The sample consisted of 9,251 students from school districts with dropout prevention programs and 5,809 students from school districts without dropout prevention programs for a total of 15,060. The total student population for the 30 school districts with dropout prevention programs was 553,440. The total student population for the 30 school districts without dropout prevention programs was 370,173.;The North Carolina State Department of Education document "Dropout Data for Grades 7--12 for Public Schools of North Carolina" was used to select the 60 school districts dropout data used in this study. The document was obtained from the Davidson County School System District Office.;The findings of this study show that the overall dropout rates of students receiving no dropout prevention treatment were nearly identical (1.7% for the school districts with dropout prevention programs and 1.6% for the school districts without dropout prevention programs).
