Tourism policy and micro-small tourism firms in the Island of Skiathos, Greece.

摘要

This thesis is exploring the policies that have been adopted concerning tourism in Greece in the period 2000-2006 and the impact those had in the micro and small tourism firms. The research is focused in the Island of Skiathos, Greece, an island that its economy is heavily relied on the tourism receipts. The first chapter is devoted in presenting the various theoretical and empirical approaches regarding the benefits and potential negative consequences the development of tourism can have for a region. The second chapter draws on existing literature and research on the impact the existence of numerous small firms can have in areas that are engaged in tourism, while after the research description and methodology, the research findings are presented, followed by reflection and insight on the implementation, effectiveness and efficiency of policies.
