摘要

Maintaining the quality of waveforms delivered to the electrical grid is a very important aspect of power generation systems. Usage of nonlinear loads by consumers introduces non-sinusoidal currents into the power grid. Over the past few decades, passive filters have been used to mitigate the undesirable harmonics and compensate reactive power in electrical systems. Maintaining power quality through passive power filters possesses many drawbacks. Active power filters provide an efficient and economical solution to this problem.;This project presents an active power filter for improving the power quality in a single phase system subjected to linear and nonlinear loads. The principles of operation and the control characteristics of the proposed filter are presented. It is demonstrated that the total harmonic distortion is reduced from 20.05% to 4.55% and the circulating current is maintained close to zero. The proposed filter is made to work via pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques, and its performance is evaluated via extensive simulations.
