Etude des systemes de transport en commun en basse densite: Le cas de la Grande Region de Montreal.

Following the analysis of data collected from the Origin-Destination surveys of 1987 and 1993, it is possible to characterize the transportation demand (sociodemographic profile and mobility) of the municipal public transportation organizations (OMIT) of the Greater Montreal Area. These organizations evolve in the low-density territory of the Greater Montreal Area. The analysis of the data of 1987 and 1993 aggregated in nine sectors permits to obtain comparisons and to differentiate the transportation demand evolution between the high-density center and the low-density territory. Aggregated in 65 sectors, the data permits to obtain a fine characterization of the sociodemographic evolution and of the mobility of the low-density sectors.;The analysis of the transportation supply of the sixteen OMIT of the Greater Montreal Area has been based on the timetables, the costs, the indicators and the evolution of the supply characteristics. These have been put in comparison with the transportation supply of the three transportation societies of the Greater Montreal Area.;At the basis of the analysis of surveys conducted by an OMIT (the Transportation Council of Vallee de Richelieu), a fine characterization of a public transportation organism who offers services in a low-density sector is obtained.
