This thesis shows how architecture and its elements communicate meaning, by using the Linguistic Theory of Semiotics to explore the cultural history of Jamaica significantly slavery. The objective is to start a dialogue how architecture, cultural history, slavery and violence can be connected while examining the literature and case studies that consider the correlations of these topics. The final goal of the thesis is to design an architectural work that clearly conveys the vocabulary collected pointedly the common and positive attributes of signs and meanings extracted from the investigation of architectural compositions and the cultural history of the Jamaican Plantation Built Environment.
