Corporate social responsibility and global governance.

摘要

This is a study of the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR), global capitalism, and its implications for global governance. It is based on data gathered from personal interviews with CSR managers who work for transnational corporations (TNCs) that are undergoing structural changes regarding CSR.; Though sparked by critical instances of public exposure, and the fear of alienating consumers and investors, CSR processes soon confront inadequate market rewards. As a result, some TNCs tend to move beyond these initial pressures. The study refers to "systemic CSR" as a logic development of structural and proactive CSR engagement, whereby corporate social responsibility makes much less sense as a self-centered, defensive attitude, than as a far-reaching business strategy to shape global capitalism, making it viable in an extremely anarchic environment. The notions of sustainable business and global governance are at the very heart of these concerns. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
