Chef Tutor 101 - A Temperature Navigation Cooking App With 'Clipo' Thermometer.

Cooking is very challenging for beginners because they often misunderstand the instructions in recipes and their improvised alternatives lead to completely different results. Hence, this thesis was designed to provide a quick and easy learning experience for beginners with a novel prospective emerging from the investigation of people's cooking habits and the problems they face in cooking. The foci of this design process are: temperature control and interactive game-like cooking experiences. Like a scientist in his experiment, the learner will see the influences of temperature changes on the dish when tracking the changes carefully in the cooking process. Like an interactive game, cooking will become easier and motivate the learner to keep trying. The final products resulted from this research are: 1)a clip thermometer device called "Clipo", 2) a cooking app called "Chef Tutor 101", and 3) the special chopsticks as the optional thermometer to assist measuring the temperature. Clipo will measure the temperature from the cookware and send it to Chef Tutor 101 so that the temperature will be visualized as a temp/time curve. It will then help the user monitor cooking temperature to avoid burning or undercooking. The app will interact with the user via voice so that the user will feel like following the instructions and receiving reminders from a professional chef in a cooking tutorial.
