Comparison of ABR screening protocols.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between Wave V and ABR threshold for click stimuli. Behavioral threshold versus ABR thresholds, Wave V latencies, and test time were examined. Auditory brainstem responses were recorded using 26 hearing-impaired subjects with mild-to-moderate sloping sensorineural hearing loss. Two test protocols were utilized to obtain ABR tracings, Chained Stimuli and Seek Threshold. Testing stimuli consisted of 2,000 sweeps at rate of 39.0/sec, with a bandpass filter setting from 100 Hz through 1500 Hz. The data were statistically processed using descriptive statistics for test time and threshold for both test protocols. A paired t test was employed to measure test times and threshold to determine if the data were statistically significant.
