A case study on the feasibility of using an automated labor management program in a selected health care organization.

he purpose of this study was to determine the difference between the time spent scheduling employees manually and time spent scheduling employees using automated labor scheduling software. A total of three 2week scheduling periods were used for manual labor scheduling and three 2-week scheduling periods were used for automated labor scheduling. For automated labor scheduling, the software program Worktime, version 2.3 for Windows was used. A cost and time analysis was completed for the manual labor scheduling and automated labor scheduling methods. For each 2-week scheduling period, results indicate there was no significant difference (P = 1.000) between the time spent for the manual method and automated method. Start up costs for the automated labor scheduling method which includes the cost of the software and training were estimated at
