Scope and method of study. The purpose of this study is to understand critical organizational context and structural characteristics that antecede the adoption of supply chain B2B e-commerce and the performance outcomes of adoption. Participants in the study were 152 executives of manufacturing firms from the Council of Logistics Management (CLM) membership directory. Each participant completed a survey that included the scales for the variables in the study. Multivariate regression analysis was the method used to test the eight sets of Hypotheses proposed in the study.; Findings and conclusions. Partial support for the relationships between context variables and supply chain B2B e-commerce adoption was found. Estimates for the influence of non-coercive influence, technological turbulence, and size were significant. Among the structural variables, specialization and integration had significant relationships with B2B e-commerce, providing partial support. B2B e-commerce significantly impacted operational performance, and mediated the relationship between two antecedent variables (technological turbulence and non-coercive influence) and operational performance. B2B e-commerce adoption also influenced financial performance of firms indirectly via operational performance.
