A medium size hospital with approximately ten thousand pieces of medical equipment and devices presents a challenge of a large distributed system for cost effective failure/repair analysis and optimized management. In order to develop optimized, health care facility dependent, medical equipment management model, life time and annualized repair costs vs. acquisition costs ratios, of selected medical equipment, are computed based on specific technical failure analysis. They are calculated in absolute terms and evaluated in terms of their time-based utilization, and correlated with their dependency on particular hospital environments. In addition, maintenance costs, repair costs, acquisition costs ratios and their statistical distribution utilizing a large database are determined. Proposed assessment procedures are illustrated for specific groups of medical equipment. Further, specific practices to elevate selected problems are proposed and methodological approaches to monitor above defined ratios are proposed.; This project also focused on radiation safety compliance testing and the methods of compliance testing by which healthcare providers must employ to insure that their radiation producing medical devices are in compliance with the applicable laws.
