An integrated model for performance management based on ISO 9000 and business excellence models.

In today's global economy, organisations must outperform their competitors in order to survive. They must set goals and objectives that will move them into leadership positions in their industries. To ensure that these goals are being met, companies are developing performance management systems to help them measure and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their activities. Several models have been developed to assist organisations in these efforts.;In this paper, a model that integrates ISO 9001, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the European Quality Award, and the Deming Prize is developed. The Organisational Performance Improvement Model (OPIM) is considered to be a combination of quality assurance standards that provide the minimum requirements for quality improvement, and business excellence models that illustrate the opportunities for improvement.;Using a Canadian high technology company as a case study, a pilot self-assessment is conducted against the OPIM. This self-assessment process is then compared to the two other performance measurement methods used within the organisation to determine its usefulness as a tool for performance improvement.
