摘要

The challenge of developing luminescent probes for use in analytical applications is discussed in this work. Simple synthetic methods were utilized to create conjugated phenanthroline derivatives which display intense emission in the visible region of the spectrum. The fluorescence wavelengths of these derivatives can be modulated by the addition of exogenous ions and the variation of solvent composition. In addition, metal-containing DNA hybridization probes were prepared using standard DNA synthesis. The manner in which the spectral and physical features of metal-modified DNA affect energy transfer was investigated. Luminescence spectroscopy and thermal denaturation experiments were employed to elucidate the principles of design for luminescent probes.
