Design and drafting personnel in the allied design professions, such as engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying, share computer-aided drawing files on a routine basis. File sharing between these different drawing formats is possible with little effort, however the unlimited combinations of color and ultimately line weight choices provided by the various software manufacturers hamper this perceived efficiency. Currently, drawing platforms do not provide a universal standard for color use in creating two-dimensional drawings on the computer monitor that ultimately result in black-line plots.; The objective of this thesis is to identify and evaluate existing standards for color use and associated line characteristics in computer-aided drawing, and to offer recommendations for additions and/or modifications to these standards.; The resulting standards proposed in this thesis provide CAD users flexibility in assigning line weight-color associations while insuring a universal approach to drawing parameters, by focusing on the quantity of line weights and colors used.
