The object of this thesis is to implement several possible solutions for high latency TCP/IP networks and complete a performance analysis. This thesis will specifically address the options of eliminating call setup, increasing the window size, and adding selective acknowledgements. This network is intended for long distance space communication that must be both reliable and timely.; This thesis involves performance analysis and comparisons between a normal system and one extended to handle high latency. By analyzing each of the factors (call setup, window size, selective acknowledgements) both separately and combined, it is possible to show dramatic increases of performance. These increases can be as much as four times greater than the current TCP/IP implementation, or more, for latencies on the order of four seconds or greater and bandwidths in the range of 100 to 200 kbps.
