Six-Sigma process improvement methodology was developed in the early 1980's to improve the financial results of business processes. The methodology has been expanded to include transactional activities and design activities. The main focus of the Six-Sigma process improvement is to identify and reduce variation in processes.; Initial studies indicated that in one manufacturing plant the total electrical energy use remained somewhat constant regardless of the amount of product produced. A large variation in energy use per unit was observed when the total energy used per week was divided by the number of units produced each week.; The purpose of this project was to determine if the variation in energy use could be reduced by using the Six-Sigma process improvement methodology.
