Security in a distributed object-oriented database in the context of a three-tier architecture illustrated with the implementation of a flight safety information system.

The objective of this thesis is to study security-related issues in a Distributed Object-Oriented database management system (DOODB). More particularly, this thesis surveys three-tier client/server security architecture and the security aspects of DOODB. To illustrate these concepts, an application, Flight Safety Information System (FSIS), was then built with three-tier client/server architecture. This application demonstrates the feasibility of this approach. In particular, different security models will be discussed, as well as the specific needs and problems for security generated by the presence of interrelated data accessed by powerful query languages. The goal of an application security architecture is to make security an administrative task, not a development or programming task.
