The purpose of this thesis it to perform a vibration analysis of a computer hard drive mounted on vibration isolators and subjected to a random vibration input using a commercially available integrated solid modeling and simulation software package, and comparing the results to results obtained from actual testing in laboratory. The software used was PTC's (formerly Parametric Technology Corporation) Pro/Engineer and Pro/Mechanica software Version 2000i2 (hereafter referred to as ProE/Mechanica). The capabilities and accuracy of the software will be tested via a flat plate analysis and show how the results converge to an unknown exact solution. The thesis will then analyze the problem of a computer hard drive mounted on vibration isolators and subjected to a random vibration input. The frequency response of the hard drive when mounted to a vibration electrodynamic shaker table will be compared to the response of the hard drive when modeled and analyzed using the integrated solid modeling and simulation software. The results from the lab testing correlate closely with the computer simulation and validate the use of an integrated solid modeling and simulation software package for complex vibration analysis.
