A Rainfall Processing (RAIN_PROC) computational interactive environment to analyze, compare, and visualize data of precipitation is presented. Visualization techniques are employed to display observations of precipitation from the Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) system, rain gauges, and the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission - Precipitation Radar (TRMM-PR) satellite. The algorithms to develop the statistical analysis, the estimation of the Z-R relation using linear regression, to operate, assimilate, and integrate the data were developed. Data corresponding to fall and winter seasons of 1998 and 1999 respectively from NEXRAD and rain gauges are processed using RAIN_PROC. The analyses produce Z-R relationships that are classified by geographic regions of Puerto Rico (Carter and Eisner, 1997). This environment was implemented to run in the UNIX or Windows operation systems using the Interactive Data Language (IDL) numerical and graphical software package and the MINITAB statistical software program.
