Barriers to female officers cadets' education at the Royal Military College of Canada (Ontario).

This study aimed at determining if female officer cadets at the Royal Military College of Canada are being affected by systemic discrimination. Women entering RMC are exposed to a traditional male environment, not only in terms of a military career, but also in terms of the educational system. It has been argued that when women enter non-traditional environments, they often face barriers that hinder their educational attainment. To determine if these barriers existed, and if they did exist, the extent to which they restricted the ability of female cadets to attain their goals, a series of interviews were conducted with first and fourth year female cadets. Based on these interviews, it can be argued that while most female cadets have found their overall experience at RMC to be positive, systemic discrimination does exist and has created a barrier for these women while they attended the College. This discrimination could also create barriers for them that will lessen their chances of a successful career when they enter the military upon commissioning.
