The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions of three veteran teachers regarding their careers in the classroom. Specifically, this study examined the impact of school reform and restructuring efforts, innovations in teaching techniques, ongoing teacher development efforts, the importance of school culture and leadership, and factors attributable to longevity in the classroom.; This study utilized the paradigm of naturalistic inquiry, using qualitative methods. The primary source of data collection was in the form of semi-structured interviews. An autobiography written by the teachers was used as a secondary source of data collection for background information. Data was reported in the form of case study for each participant. Analysis evolved from the interview and autobiographical data through emerging patterns and categories using the constant comparative technique. Member checks were conducted, and a peer reviewer was used to confirm, verify, and clarify categories and the researcher's construction of meaning.; The conclusions of the study were: (1) Professional development programs must be individualized to be successful in promoting professional growth and renewal; (2) Professional educators should lead school reform efforts in American schools; and (3) The school culture permeates the programs of the school.
