摘要

The goal of this thesis is to reduce the computational time required for mechanical engineering applications and to tap the unused computational power over the Internet. This is done through distributed computing over the Internet using CORBA to connect the java server to C++ clients. The client runs as a background program in the Windows machine being represented as an icon in the system tray.; Distributed computing is most appropriate for such applications as inverting a large matrix, finding all the natural frequencies of a truss structure. Results show that distributed computing over the Internet for mechanical engineering applications is best suited in which each client can work independently and the amount data to be transmitted between server and clients is small. However, for small problems, the overhead for data transmission outweighs its effectiveness.
