摘要

Smart sensor networks consist of collections of networked nodes connected to sensor and actuator peripherals. Each node has its own CPU and memory, allowing it to perform efficient data collection, make independent decisions, or work with a subgroup of nodes in a distributed manner. Recent low-cost, highly integrated microcontrollers have made smart sensor networks an attractive option for many applications. In this paper, a smart sensor network protocol based on the I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) bus is developed and analyzed. The analysis includes ease of implementation and performance on low-cost microcontrollers, network throughput and efficiency, the ability to detect and recover from transmission errors, and the support of common sensor network operations.
