Two topics are studied: slot ring antennas fed by microstrip transmission lines and dielectric image line beam scanning. Design of new multi-frequency slot antenna elements is discussed in detail. The microstrip-fed slot ring antennas can radiate at three operating frequencies with broadside radiation patterns by selecting the appropriate slot width and microstrip stub length. The radiation pattern's polarization is adjusted by allowing the microstrip feed to interact with the slot at more than one location. Operating frequency ratios are also adjustable by the location of the feed. Dual-frequency arrays of microstrip-fed slot ring antennas are demonstrated. Accurate design is accomplished by using an integral equation method of moment code. The use of orthogonal and semi-orthogonal wavelet basis functions is compared for the method-of-moment code solution of infinite strip and a finite length wire illuminated by plane waves.; Beam scanning of dielectric image line traveling wave antenna arrays, by using metal perturbation, is the second topic that is investigated. Beam scanning of a waveguide-fed, as well as a microstrip-fed, dielectric image line planar antenna array is shown. A microstrip to dielectric image line transition is developed for easy fabrication of dielectric image line planar arrays. Two-dimensional beam scanning of a dielectric image line planar array using piezoelectric actuators is shown.
