摘要

The changing business environment in the electric power industry has led to substantial changes in the large power transformer business. Those changes have resulted in the loss of manufacturing facilities, and in the continuing decline of long-term expertise supporting this industry. Therefore, there is a compelling need to capture this long-term knowledge, the best technical skills, and the state of the art in transformer design, making it available to the users in the electric power community.; The solution proposed here is to develop an expert help system to facilitate the analysis and assessment of short circuit forces in large power transformers. It was developed through a process of interviews and knowledge engineering, coupled with an assessment of the current state of the technology. It bridges the gap between the practical and the theoretical, providing a tool for future engineers, and demonstrates the concept and its value for use in other component areas of transformer design.
