The purpose of this research was to determine consumer attitudes in the United States and the United Kingdom about certification of beef products attributes relative to food safety, animal welfare, social responsibility, and environmental responsibility.; Focus groups were conducted at the Royal Agriculture College in Circencester, England, and at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. A nonparametric statistical test (Friedman test) was used to detect differences in rankings and scoring of certifying labels for government agencies, certifying agencies, and brand names.; Street surveys were held in the United Kingdom and the United States, which validated the conclusions made from the focus group sessions. Participants in the focus groups and street surveys were asked whom they trusted the most and whom they trusted the least to make certifications for food safety, animal welfare, social responsibility, and environmental responsibility.
