The TRLabs Gigabit Radio is a prototype gigabit-per-second wireless network operating at 17.35 GHz. By using powerful digital signal processing techniques at the base-station, wireless terminals can be left as relatively simple devices. However, these terminals will require a radio transceiver for 17.35 GHz communication. The goal of the GigaRFIC project is to create radio frequency integrated circuits for the Gigabit Radio terminals.; This work is the first in a series of GigaRFIC projects. Presented here is the design, simulation and measurement of a 17.35 GHz low noise amplifier, and a 17.35 GHz direct clown-conversion mixer. Circuit specifications are obtained from a radio receiver plan that is developed and presented in this thesis. Both circuits are designed with a novel, simultaneous noise and power matching strategy. The circuits are fabricated in a 0:5 mum, f T = 47 GHz SiGe BiCMOS process.
