Fall prevention for 65 years and older women and men in the first week of hospitalization.

摘要

Falls are one of the major concerns facing hospitalized elderly patients today. There are different preventive measures to help decrease the fall rate. The objectives of this paper are to (a) Identify the main risk factors, including medications such as benzodiazepine, (b) Outline comprehensive assessment methods, (c) Discuss key interventions to prevent falls, including the tab alarm system, and (d) provide recommendations for practice and future research involving older adults in new technology intervention programs for fall prevention. Findings showed that tab alarm system has positive effects. It is apparent current research methods could be improved upon and perhaps innovative research methods need to be discovered to make a reduction in falls.
