Daddy's Little Girl is a novel about choices, consequences of those choices and the true meaning of the word "family." Jen Callahan is a 27-year old teacher living in the New York City borough of Queens with Adam Murphy, her police officer fiance. Jen's parents divorced when she was a child and she maintains a relationship with her mother, Kathy Donovan. Jen is estranged from her father, Frank Callahan. Frank returns to Jen's life very suddenly at the beginning of the novel. Over the course of the novel, it becomes clear that Frank's motives are entirely selfish. He is in need of a kidney transplant. He asks her to donate one of her kidneys. The novel follows Jen's journey to her decision. She must weigh her anger and resentment towards her father with her desire to "do the right thing" and Catholic principles of forgiveness.
