The Second World War was fought all over the globe and over 16 million Americans would eventually serve in the armed forces. While they all suffered hardships, the men fighting in the Pacific Theater would always struggle the most. This thesis will detail some of the difficulties these men faced including the weather and terrain, logistical problems, shortages of good food and clean water, outdated weaponry, disease, and a lack of naval and air support.;This thesis will make use of numerous primary sources from the men who fought the war, especially focusing on the lives of six individuals who represent a good cross section of fighting men. There will also be use of secondary sources and official histories to provide specific details on the topics discussed.;This thesis will show that while men fighting in the Pacific faced more difficulties than those in Europe, they were able to accomplish more. Instead of just fighting a defensive war, they were able to bring the war to Japan's doorstep by May of 1945.
