A wireless mobile Ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile hosts forming nodes, which randomly change their locations, communicating without the aid of any centralized administration or standard support services. Each node participating in the network acts both as a host and a router. Therefore, nodes must be willing to forward packets to each other through a routing protocol. The concept of Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) is an attempt to extend mobility within autonomous, mobile, wireless domains. Unlike existing cellular networks, there is no permanent centralized administration for each wireless domain (e.g. by the use of base station), instead, the set of mobile hosts form by themselves the network routing infrastructure in ad hoc fashion, and, cooperatively, carry out the functions of routing and Medium Access Control (MAC). Nevertheless, all nodes participate in an ad hoc routing protocol, which allow them to discover “multi-hop” paths through the network to any other node. However, a dynamic wireless mobile infrastructure needs to be established to ensure comparable Quality of Service (QoS) to the cellular networks. Furthermore, MAC infrastructure and routing issues need to be addressed.; The objective of this work is to provide efficient mechanisms for infrastructure formation and routing protocols for wireless MANET. Conversely, to facilitate this research, a packet-level discrete-event simulation package is developed in order to monitor, observe and measure the performance of various routing and infrastructure protocols. Analytical methods are developed to model this work and compare it with experimental results. Moreover, different polling schemes have been applied to the developed routing protocol in order to implement different classes of QoS.
