Using the model of human occupation to explore the experiences of individuals recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

This qualitative study examined the experiences of individuals who have been recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Persons interviewed shared their perspectives on how multiple sclerosis has impacted their lives. These perspectives were grouped into themes, which gave insight into how people's experiences and interactions with the environment are challenged in the early stages of multiple sclerosis. This study provided information about problems in living after a recent diagnosis of multiple sclerosis that occupational therapy could potentially address. The results included the major themes: diagnosis process and treatment, extent of support, role shifts, perception of self, making adjustments, and envisioning the future.
