umerous studies have been done on the economic impact of the oil and natural gas extraction industry in various areas; however, little research has been done on the industry's impact on the rural areas of East Texas including Nacogdoches County. This study quantifies the economic impact of the oil and natural gas extraction industry as an employer, source of tax revenue to the community and contributor to household income in terms surface damage payments and royalty/bonus income to individual landowners in Nacogdoches County.;In 2008, the oil and natural gas extraction industry produced
