Improving a community's environment and economy through eco-industrial networking: The case of Langley, British Columbia.

摘要

The goal of this thesis was to assess whether interorganizational networking could help a community improve both its environment and economy by facilitating the implementation of eco-industrial networks (EIN). The objectives of the study were to (1) determine the predominant barriers faced by eco-industrial development projects, (2) identify the types of networks that are very supportive of EID, (3) highlight some opportunities for EIN in a community and to explain the potential roles that current networks can play for each opportunity. This thesis also aimed to show that EIN has application for the entire community system and that businesses, the environment and the community as a whole can realize benefits. The first two objectives were addressed using a survey of EID projects in the U.S. and the third and fourth were achieved using a case study of Langley, B.C. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
