The fit between the leisure activities finder items and Holland's hexagonal model: A multi-dimensional scaling analysis.

The purpose of the study was to investigate college students' judgments of the similarity of The Leisure Activities Finder (LAF) items and proposed work/leisure relationships associated with the LAF. Data obtained from 143 participants using 64-item response sets corresponding to Holland types were submitted to multi-dimensional scaling analysis. Findings suggested more complex relationships among LAF items than could be represented in two dimensions. Responses to The Self-Directed Search were used to calculate congruence for reported occupational and leisure behaviors. Chi-square analyses of the independence among occupational and leisure congruence scores produced significant statistics. Findings were consistent with Holland's (1997) suggestion that individuals engage in like occupational and leisure behaviors.
