An effective screening process for dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease continues to be the most common form of dementia. Risk factors include gender, educational attainment, ethnic background, and advancing age. This educational curriculum was designed to give clinicians exposure to important information and the opportunity to begin to implement assessment tools for identifying early warning signs.;This project was conducted to assist clinicians in understanding challenges surrounding the screening and referral process for Alzheimer's disease, challenges of treatment, burdens on caregivers, and barriers that hinder understanding of this disease, which takes a drastic toll on society, despite almost 3 decades of research and investigation. Analysis of the curriculum through evaluation and comparison of pretest and posttest scores demonstrated that participants made significant gains in their knowledge of the screening process for Alzheimer's and related conditions.
