Establishing global network foundation to enable global business requirements project at Westfield Corporation.

摘要

The recent technology advancements and innovations in Information Technology (IT) areas are making it possible today for fast and simple use of communication and management resources.;The purpose of the thesis is to analyze and implement a global IT infrastructure for Westfield Corporation, Los Angeles, California where global IT is being managed for all 4 regional headquarters. The primary need for taking such an initiative was to consolidate resources, cost reduction and create a single network among 4 countries around the globe.;The results of this study indicated that global operations strategy required several changes in the existing IT organization and governance, network infrastructure and tactical plans. Based on these findings, Westfield created a global IT organization composed of a Global Technology Steering Committee working with a new Global Chief Information Officer (CIO) role to ensure a consistent technology strategy for the support of global business needs. It has been realized by this committee that prior to making any progress in numerous areas of business communications it is absolutely necessary to establish a rock solid foundation for a global communications network between these regions. This global communication network consisted of a high-speed wide area network (WAN), efficient and trouble free local area network (LAN), and stable and robust windows network for user authentication and authorization.;A good approach has been taken in this thesis to provide step-by-step process and implementation of a global network foundation enabling various business communication requirements making it a realistic bench marking experience.
