The effects of inertial forces at different frequencies can cause structures to enter into resonance, this translates into stresses and strains not normally considered in the design of the system. The resonance or frequency of a system can be measured with an accelerometer, which is a vibration measurement sensor.; A calibration shaker is a tool used to calibrate accelerometers. The design and optimization of a calibration shaker was performed to accommodate two major design specifications. One, the system must work in a frequency range from DC to 20,000 Hz. Two, the system should have quick loading and unloading mechanics for the accelerometer exchange.; A vacuum system was designed, incorporated and optimized to an electromagnetic shaker for loading and unloading of the accelerometers. The armature vacuum system was optimized for maximum vacuum volume and contact surface. Vibration testing was performed to corroborate the frequency range and the functionality of the system.; This methodology can be used by manufactures to help design vibration equipment. An optimized vacuum assisted armature table does not appear in the literature. Armature design for most companies is more of an art than an engineering design. Most armature designs evolve from trial and error approaches, and experience.
