The truck-drivers training for the transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) is one of the prevention measures recommended by United Nations Organisation. With several surveys we were able to describe in detail TDG training programs in Quebec and this is one of the original aspects of this thesis.; The results of the first study shows that the truck driver training for the TDG in Quebec lasts approximately four to six hours including one hour open manual examination. The truck-driver practical training is given in only four institutions out of 15. The manual used by the majority of institutions is Marchandises dangereuses: guide du camionneur published by Canadian Trucking Association. The training programs rarely include topic on the sensitising of the truck-drivers about dangers of dangerous goods and the consequences if the necessary steps of dangerous goods handling are disregarded. The teaching method used is a lecture. The truck-drivers are admitted to the training without minimal admission requirements. This training is provided by trainers, which are employees of training institutions and their qualifications varies from the training for TDG, the experience in TDG or the experience in teaching. The quality of this TDG training is questioned.; The second study shows that there are several acting ways to ensure the compliance of the regulations requirements formulated by different countries in varying forms. In Canada and the United States, the employer is responsible of the pertinence and the quality of the truck driver training for the TDG in terms of duration, contents, examination, etc. Therefore, in difference from Quebec, in California and in Ohio the governmental authorities administer the examination of truck-drivers for TDG. According to ADR (European Agreement relative to the international carriage of the dangerous goods by road) adopted by Sweden and the Netherlands, the national authority ensures the quality of the truck driver training for the TDG by means of accreditation. In Sweden, the trainers are accredited and in the Netherlands the training institutions accreditation is undertaken. Our research shows a difference in the truck-driver training approaches in North America and in Europe. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
