This study explores specific areas of emotional intelligence that are found in a sample of group insurance representatives using the MSCEIT Survey (Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test). Emotional intelligence is commonly described as a single performance level assigning a score as IQ does. Using the MSCEIT Survey, respondents were compared to find any similar attributes that affect their gross income. Additionally, the specific areas of the MSCEIT Survey are compared to gender and years of experience. The MSCEIT Survey further identifies specific components that contribute to the overall score.;The participants in this study consisted of insurance brokers who sell group insurance in The Metro-NY-NJ-CT area. Of the 105 responses secured, there were 56 males and 49 females. The oldest respondent was 69 years old, and the youngest was 19 years old. The average age for males was 44 years, and for females the average age was 46 years.;Insurance sales representatives in this study were found to possess a strong ability to integrate emotion and thought into effective decision making. There is a strong relationship with particular tasks identified by the MSCEIT Survey with gender. Male and female insurance sales representatives do not show any differences in their MSCEIT scores except for within two specific tasks where they are similarly effective.;Additionally, this study concluded that there is a strong relationship among group insurance representatives' gross income and age.
