This project describes the study performed to reduce the cost of building the hydraulic system on the leading edge of the wing of an aircraft. The focus of this project was to determine via analysis the key product and process characteristics causing variation in the tube development and tube fabrication processes. This was accomplished through the use of a methodology that encompasses the use of the seven management and planning tools, failure modes and effects analyses, and the gage repeatability and reproducibility study to determine the process capability.; As a result of this study, it was recommended and implemented that old machinery be replaced and employees trained. Once the development study was completed, the fabrication study was performed and some of their equipment was replaced also. We now have tubing that meets engineering requirements and the cost of building the hydraulic system has decreased a minimum of fifty percent.
