Nuevas identidades en el cine y la literatura de las autonomias (1980--2000): Retos ante la globalizacion y la era cibernetica.

An analysis of the plurilingual and pluricultural situation of the Spain of the autonomies in the context of the global and cybernetic era is essential to a full understanding of the cultural panorama in present-day Spain. In this dissertation I focus on literature and cinema fields which present a challenge to both what Lyotard calls "grand recits" of the XIXth century and to the traditional canonic disposition of literary and cinematographic works. With this perspective, I explore topics such as nationalism, migration, women's studies, transatlantic studies and web cultures and identities as depicted in Spanish literature and cinema. Particularly, I am interested in new emerging identities in the Spanish world in the light of globalization and the cybernetic era. The works I discuss include Manuel Rivas' Galicia, el bonsai atlantico (1989), Xavier Villaverde's Finisterre (1998), Bernardo Atxaga's El hombre solo (1994), Imanol Uribe's La muerte de Mikel (1984), Juan Marse's El amante bilingue (1990), Bigas Luna's La teta y la luna (1994), Adelaida Garcia Morales' El silencio de las sirenas (1985), and Itciar Bollain's Flores de otro mundo (1999).
